A broken water main is not the end of the world. Bad weather in the eastern US is causing many problems but being out of water for a couple days is minor at best. First of all, almost every house has about 30 gallons of drinking water stored in the hot water tank. Secondly, if the yard is full of snow (frozen water) you really only need to be a careful in how you use your supply.

Cooking, washing and flushing are all important if you are stuck in the house but you can manage this easily. As soon as you know there is no water being supplied to your home you have to put your plan in motion and get set up. Every home is different but most only need some basic supplies and a good knowledge of how your homes systems work. Do you know how to turn off the water main inside your home? Do you know how to shut off your hot water tank and use the drain to get the water out?

You should have around the house 10 gallons of bottled water, a couple gallons of bleach, a pack of Chlorine tablets and a couple of clean 5 gallon buckets. Get a short piece of hose with a female end on it to drain water from the tank and make sure you have a few simple tools. It really is no big deal for anyone to deal with…..

Emergency Camp "The Reason"

  The reason I started Emergency Camp is that I have found that most people have no clue how to survive.  We had a large snow event in the north east US, not a giant event but about 20 inches.  I have heard it all this week.  About 50 people uttered these words "I didn't know you need electric to have heat in your house" {duh}
   So I was watfhing a morning show today and one of the feature stories was about some idiot that sat in his car for 4 days because he got stuck and did not want to walk the 7 miles out to safety.  Mind you this is a young healthy guy, alone and claimed he was afraid of the forest ceatures.  You have got to be kidding me this passed as news.  He sat there for the first three days until his suv ran out of fuel and then decided to take the stroll out to the road. (he's lucky).  Had he not had that much fuel he would most likely have died because he did not have the first clue about how to get out of trouble.  You would not want to lose your life because you didn't want to take a couple hour walk. So we will get into the issues involved on Emergency Camp.
